Their Life

Early life

Eldrin was born into a friendly and warm family in the suburbs of Thalm Samut. Their mother, an elven Paladin of Soliman, always supported Eldrins visions and ideals. Their other parent, asomewhat more solemn person, never spoke a word that could as well be missed. The meals were the most important moments during the days at home, and no one wanted to miss out on those. Eldrin was left to make their own choices during the rest of the day, and they used those to discover more about themself. Many readers will be looking for tragedy here, yet there's none to be found. Eldrin was a happy young Half-Elf.

Sorcerous origin

What changed? It's difficult to say precisely when, but Eldrin started to show signs of innate magical ability during their youth. At first, they were afraid and anxious; later, they got curious and started experimenting with their newfound powers. The visions came at this moment in their -still young- life, the warnings. "Soliman the Fiery, the compassionate, grants you these powers, Lunaire, the Soothing wind, protects you from them.

The streets

Eldrin packed their bags, left a message and wandered the streets of Thalm Samut. But with every step they took, it became apparent that their parents would never let them go. Not really. They supported this endeavour (of course they would), but in their misgiven care, they tried to steer Eldrin away from danger or danger away from Eldrin. And Eldrin couldn't learn, so Eldrin left for Thalm Sashiri.

Thalm Sashiri

The streets of Thalm Sashiri were less kind to Eldrin than they would have expected at first glance, but they made friends. Many of those out of a small orphanage near the Sailor's quarters. Eldrin learned what evils there are in the world in these mud-filled streets. It's here that Eldrin swore a solemn oat to change the world for the betterment of the downtrodden. They found their destiny

Characteristics

Even though they spent a lot of their life on the streets, Eldrin never got used to swearing, nor did they find the need to do so appealing in any way.

Hali thinks Eldrin believes most polecats are pompous asses.

Rumors

  • The Child prodigy of Thalm Samut, Eldrin is a gifted youngster and is touched by the divines.
  • Eldrin supports the orphanage in Thalm Sashiri in any way they can. Mostly through donations, sometimes by healing.
  • Eldrin had to leave Thalm Samut after a robbery gone wrong, all their holier-than-thou attitude is just a way to make up for the death of a person.

How the orphans of Thalm Sashari learnt a curse

Written by Meinhart, as a birthday gift to Vinnie

This is the story of the strongest curse in Thalm Sashari, and how some street urchins witnessed its creation. Thalm Sashari’s dispossessed maintain its use to this day.

Despite being an orphan living alone on the streets of Thalm Sashari, Lila is the kind of little girl who goes around after it rains and picks up the worms of the sidewalk. She throws them back in the dirt, driven by a level of compassion the hard knock life on the streets is incapable of sullying.

One day, after the rain, Lila finds three blood oranges. Lila had never seen anything like it. It is round and smooth, bright orange like the ordinary oranges she knew, but one was split, damaged, perhaps, when the 3 oranges slipped from the hands of a thief who stole them from a powerful sorcerer, or maybe they fell when a spoilt concubine grew careless with her owner’s riches… Lila sees its flesh had a deep red color that reminded her of blood.

In the bright light of high noon, the fruits feel strangely cool in her hands. It feels like both a mystery and a promise, one she’s eager to share with her brothers and sisters of the streets. Maybe they will know, or maybe she can ask that newly arrived stranger they call the god child.

As she picks them up, movement deeper in the alley catches her eye. She discerns two blond humans, accompanied by, incongruously, a white swan. She knew the port town was full of dangers. All manner of folk prowled the streets at night, looking for easy prey. She had learned to avoid them, to hide in the shadows, to abandon everything and run when necessary. She had seen too many of her friends disappear or die.

But this time… this time it is different. The fruit, these blood oranges, as she decided to call them, are different, as are the strangers staring her down.

She dashes away, to her hiding place, a small cellar under an abandoned warehouse. She’s relieved to find a few others there, the comfort of familiarity. Her friends are equally fascinated by the fruits. They peel off the skin of the damaged blood orange, further revealing the flesh inside. They share the parts, and bite into it, and gasp. It is delicious, sweet and tangy, with a hint of bitterness.

It's with horror, then, that Lila hears commotion at the entrance to their cellar. Somehow the blond strangers, with their high cheekbones and intense eyes, have followed her, and found her. Their swan is nowhere to be seen.

Lila feels a chill shiver down her spine when she sees the one they call god child step into the path of the strangers. From where she’s crouched, she can’t hear what the strangers say, but the god child’s reaction is plain for all to see.

They pull a fork from their satchel and stare the strangers down through the twines. When their I’m looking at you through this fork, so I can better picture you behind bars! rings out loud and clear, the woman puts her hand on the arm of the man accompanying her. She murmurs something and the strangers slink away.

That night, when the blood oranges have been shared as far as they can stretch, Lila shares the story of the curse for the first time: FORK YOU!
