Mein lieber Schatz!

It brought me much comfort to receive your letter, thank you for remembering to write to your poor mother every now and then! I’ve not gotten to hear the details from Mondregen yet - he decided to have your letter express delivered rather than bringing it over in person. The fact he was sending his own letter along to beg for funding for his return trip probably played more of a part in that decision than altruism, but it was still a kind gesture. I look forward to hearing him out about the wonderful adventures you’ve been on since your last letter!

He did mention you were traveling north after he met you in Koh’Shar, so I hope that The Vale is a safe bet for this letter to find you. I’m glad you’re staying safe and making friends – I was hoping you would! It can be all too easy for us performers to become so wrapped up in our art and our vision that we neglect the kind of enriching connections and experiences that feed that art in the first place.

I will admit, I was surprised to read you decided to head in this direction with your piece after all. It feels very different from the more abstract ‘dancing flame’ Nebelsegel had attempted to described to us after you shared some of your work with her after the funeral – the way she described it there was rather a lot of height and wild movements involved. I figured she must have misunderstood your intent – the dear girl is a wonderful designer, but she’s no dancer. I’m rather relieved you’ve decided to work on a strong, solid, traditional foundation instead. Although I suppose the idea of the elegant swan becoming a wild phoenix was rather fanciful...

I trust that the fruits of your labour will come together wonderfully. We will ofcourse be expected at the coronation soon, Princess Lydia will likely choose to inform you personally. I hope you will do our family proud by presenting the results of your work to the world – our legacy rests on your shoulders! I’ve done as you asked and did a bit of research on Mudras and Totem Poses. A peculiar direction to take, but I trust the process!

PS: Nebelsegel moved to King’s Crossing recently, by the way! She might have mentioned when you saw her last that her partner Merle is doing a job there for a few months. Do visit her if you happen to pass by, she’d be happy to see you again!
